The Association of Canadian Editorial Cartoonists will hold their biennial convention in Banff, Alberta from August 21-24, 2008. The editorial cartoonist community in Canada is a close knit community and the convention is an opportunity for members from across Canada to get together, learn new techniques and skills, discuss the politics and practices of their profession and to maintain a sense of camaraderie in the business. Attending members include the best in Canadian talent. Two Order of Canada recipients, Terry Mosher (Aislin) and Roy Peterson, many National Newspaper Award and Canadian Community Newspaper Award winners and a host of other talented artists who make their living poking fun at our politicians and Canadian life in general. This year, attendees include cartoonists from almost every province in Canada. Thoughts
Okay so now that I am here, what will I talk about? I will talk about what is happening at the Olympics as I speak. Just a lot has happened that the Olympics involving the continent of Africa and African nations. Some Kenyan runners have won a couple of metals and some Ethiopian runners too. I am somewhat surprised with the Kenyans with their great long distance running program that they are not winning a whole lot of medals but I am sure that they will come up with the medals. I don't know what else to say about the Africans and their lack of medal output at the Olympic games but I am sure that what it really comes down to is a lack of funds that they are receiving from either the public sector or the governements which want to keep the money for themselves and not give it to the people in need. Kenya and Ethiophia would be much better countries and very good countries in the Olympic Games if they had the funding to provide long term training for the athletes but it seems that they...
